Republican David Schweikert secured an eighth term in Arizona’s 1st Congressional District by narrowly defeating Democratic challenger Amish Shah. Despite shifts toward the center and redistricting that fueled Democratic hopes, Schweikert maintained GOP control in a district covering areas like Scottsdale and Paradise Valley.
His tenure has been marked by close races and ethics scandals, including fines from the FEC and House Committee on Ethics. Shah, an ER doctor, campaigned on affordable housing and healthcare but couldn’t overcome Schweikert’s established base. Meanwhile, Democratic Rep. Greg Stanton won in the 4th District, and the 6th District race between Republican Juan Ciscomani and Democrat Kirsten Engel remained too close to call.
