Growing up in a family with little money, Santa rarely visited, dampening our Christmas spirit. To make up for it, my mother created the Christmas Elephant, which brought us small homemade gifts every year. That was, until one day, when I accidentally dropped it and it broke. Inside, we found a hidden note from my mother: “For when the time is right, the magic will find you,” along with a map leading into the woods.
We followed the map and discovered an old wooden box, filled with letters to “The Christmas Elephant’s Helpers” and a note from my mother explaining how she had quietly helped people in need each year, spreading kindness and food. The real magic wasn’t in the gifts—it was in the act of giving hope. My sister and I decided to continue the tradition, honoring our mother’s legacy during the holidays.
