My Husband’s Tantrums Are Leading Him to Taste His Own Medicine

Subject: Am I in the Wrong for How I Reacted?

Summary: My husband is a brilliant surgeon, but at home, he’s emotionally immature. Yesterday, after I beat him at Scrabble, he threw my phone in the pool. Instead of reacting, I calmly took his prized possession—a rare signed medical textbook—and returned the favor.

We’ve been married for 10 years, and his behavior has grown more erratic and childish. I’ve suggested therapy, but he dismisses it as me “overreacting.” On game night, I was winning, which set him off. When I played “quixotic” for a triple word score, he accused me of cheating. I reminded him that I’m an English teacher, but he stormed outside and threw my phone in the pool.

So, this morning, I dropped his cherished book into the water. Now he’s furious, staying at his brother’s, and our families are weighing in. Some say I went too far; others think he deserved it. I know two wrongs don’t make a right, but I’m tired of being his emotional punching bag. Was I wrong?
