Why I Had to Stop My Stepdaughter From Coming on the Family Trip

From: Melanie

Subject: Am I wrong for telling my stepdaughter that she needs to contribute through housework to join us on the cruise?

My husband bought an expensive family cruise, and I thought it would be a great bonding experience. However, when it came to my 17-year-old stepdaughter, I told her she could join us, but only if she helped with housework. She doesn’t contribute much and spends a lot of time on her phone, so I felt it was fair for her to earn her spot. She threw a tantrum, calling it unfair, but I stood firm and said, “Then stay home!” Now I’m wondering if I overreacted.
