My DIL often asks me to babysit her two kids from her previous marriage, who eat a lot. When I asked her to pay for groceries, she smirked.
Later, I noticed my credit card was missing. She admitted to taking it, saying it was easier to use for groceries since she didn’t always carry cash. She returned the card without apologizing and said, “You’re their grandma now, so this is part of the deal.”
I was shocked. While I try to be supportive as they adjust to a new family dynamic, this felt like she was taking advantage of me. When I brought it up with my son, he dismissed my concerns, saying, “She didn’t mean any harm.”
Now, I’m left feeling hurt and unsure if I overreacted. Should I set clearer boundaries, or am I being unreasonable?
Sincerely,
Donna”
