I’m close with my daughter-in-law (DIL), and when I was Christmas shopping, my son suggested I get her a frying pan so she could cook like me. I was furious because it wasn’t the first time I noticed him belittling her, especially her cooking, career, and housework. It hurt me to see him treat her this way, despite all I’d taught him about respecting women.
So, I decided to take action. I bought my DIL a frying pan, but also tucked a two-week Hawaii tour ticket inside. On Christmas morning, she opened it, and her face lit up with joy when she saw the ticket. My son, embarrassed, said, “That’s unfair!” I replied, “It’s unfair to get just a pan.”
I’m hoping this lesson sticks with him. Do you think I did the right thing, or should I have stayed out of their marriage?
