New York Senator Charles Schumer, leader of the Senate Democrats, has devised a strategy to oppose President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda. Despite his party losing control of Congress and the White House after January 2025, Schumer plans to leverage the judiciary, which he and President Biden have heavily influenced.
Schumer expressed confidence that the judiciary would serve as a strong barrier against Trump’s actions. Reflecting on the Democratic Senate’s success in appointing over a quarter of the federal judiciary, Schumer emphasized the importance of the judiciary in protecting the party’s legislative gains. He acknowledged that this strategy was inspired by the Republicans’ focus on controlling the bench under President George W. Bush.
Schumer also noted that Republicans would likely target Biden’s policies, particularly on women’s rights, environmental protections, and labor issues, using the judiciary to challenge these advancements.
