Former Congress member Liz Cheney has denied allegations of destroying over 100 files related to the January 6 Committee’s investigation. The accusations, originally raised by Donald Trump and supported by Rep. Barry Loudermilk, claim that committee members failed to preserve key evidence, potentially exonerating Trump.
Cheney called the accusations “ridiculous and false,” defending the committee’s actions as lawful. She also labeled Trump’s comments about punishing members of Congress an “assault on the rule of law.” Trump suggested the missing files were deliberately destroyed to hide exculpatory evidence and hinted that such actions could lead to legal consequences.
Cheney, however, maintained there is no legal or constitutional basis for prosecuting committee members over the missing files, calling such efforts inappropriate and sanctionable.
