FBI Director Christopher Wray is preparing to resign before the end of his 10-year term, clearing the path for Kash Patel’s expected confirmation by the Senate next month. Wray, a Trump appointee, recognizes that President-elect Trump aims to appoint a loyalist to end what he calls the FBI’s “weaponization” against political opponents.
Wray is expected to step down around or before Trump’s inauguration. In the interim, Deputy Director Paul Abbate will manage the FBI until Patel, a former intelligence specialist, is confirmed. Patel has already secured support from key Republican senators, including Joni Ernst, John Cornyn, and Chuck Grassley.
