I Forbade My Stepdaughter From Joining Us on the Family Trip

Linda, a mother, shared her family struggle involving her teenage stepdaughter, 3-year-old son, and husband. Her husband bought an expensive all-inclusive cruise for the family. Linda told her stepdaughter she could join if she earned it by doing chores, but the teen refused and stormed out. Linda stood firm, saying she’d stay home if she didn’t comply.

On the day of the trip, Linda found her son crying in his room. Her stepdaughter, also in tears, had thrown out his toys and was shouting that her father was replacing her with his “new baby.” The scene shocked Linda, leaving her son scared and her stepdaughter feeling betrayed.

When her husband arrived, the situation escalated into a heated argument. Ultimately, they decided the stepdaughter should stay with her mother during the trip. However, the teen sent hurtful texts throughout the vacation, casting a shadow over the experience.

Now back home, tensions remain high. Linda’s son misses his sister, but the teen has distanced herself from him and the family. Linda wonders if she mishandled the situation by trying to teach responsibility or if she unintentionally created a rift. She’s seeking advice on how to repair the relationship with her stepdaughter and bring harmony back to the family.
