Tom Homan, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for border czar, has vowed to begin deportation efforts immediately after inauguration, starting in Chicago. Speaking at a GOP event, Homan warned Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson against impeding federal immigration actions, threatening prosecution under U.S. Code for harboring or concealing illegal immigrants.
Homan criticized Chicago’s leadership, declaring, “Your mayor sucks, and your governor sucks,” and promised an increased ICE presence targeting criminals and gang members starting January 21. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s office dismissed Homan’s remarks, accusing the Trump administration of baseless attacks.
Homan also addressed resistance from Democratic mayors like Denver’s Mike Johnston, who pledged to obstruct federal efforts. Homan cited federal law that criminalizes harboring or impeding immigration enforcement and affirmed his commitment to enforcing public safety and national security. Despite local pushback, Homan emphasized, “We’re going to enforce the law, period.”
