We dream of a world where women can walk safely, but the reality is far from it. Around 65% of women in the US have faced street harassment, with 20% reporting being followed. Thankfully, women are sharing safety strategies to help others stay safe.
One Reddit user escaped a stalker thanks to advice she’d read online. After shopping at a mall with her husband, she entered a restroom alone and noticed a man inside who turned toward her. Remembering advice to avoid isolated spaces when followed, she left immediately and moved to the main shopping area.
She recalled another tip: go into a store the follower wouldn’t typically enter. Spotting a dollhouse store, she went inside, but the man followed and kept watching her. Fearful, she rushed out, called her husband, and loudly said, “I’m being followed.” Her husband came quickly, and the stalker fled. The danger was gone.
