Former President Donald Trump has reportedly offered Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) the position of U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, as per a CNN report citing unnamed sources.
Stefanik, a strong Trump ally and the fourth-ranking House Republican, has not yet commented on the offer, nor has Trump made an official statement. If Stefanik accepts, her House seat would require a special election within 90 days, with a likely Republican successor due to the district’s GOP lean (R+9).
Stefanik has a history of supporting Israel and has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration’s handling of international conflicts, including the wars in Gaza and Ukraine and the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal. She has also condemned the United Nations, accusing it of antisemitism and opposing its climate change initiatives, citing financial irresponsibility.
