Actress Quinta Brunson Is Upset With ‘No Black Characters’ On Friends

Conversations about diversity have gained prominence, including critiques of past TV shows like *Friends* for lacking diversity. Quinta Brunson, known for *Abbott Elementary*, addressed this during her *SNL* monologue, pointing out the absence of Black characters in *Friends*. Brunson highlighted the contrast between her show, set in a predominantly Black Philadelphia school, and *Friends*.

Her remarks resonated with the audience as she joked, “It’s a network sitcom like *Friends*, but with Black people.” The issue has also been acknowledged by *Friends* co-creator, Marta Kauffman, who expressed regret over the show’s shortcomings and donated $4 million to support African and African-American studies. Kauffman reflected, “Admitting guilt is painful… I didn’t know better 25 years ago,” emphasizing her commitment to being an anti-racist ally. The push for diversity in entertainment continues as past errors are recognized and steps toward inclusivity are taken.
